i got lucky
and i would have told you how that dj played the perfect music for snogging
and pointed out how the stars all came out as soon as the movie called for them
and nodded at the white ghostly flocks of birds that flew by at the right moments
and shared the jacket that the nice couple lent me when they saw me going blue
and laughed with you at the silly american who said they shouldn't do these things in this weather
(so what? should we give up and stay indoors just because of a few little shivers?)
and i may or may not have told you about the strand and how they used to make ropes there
but i didn't get lucky
and so you were having sushi
or in bed with cramps
or at a birthday party
or having a beer with mates
or out on a date
or away from your phone
or whatever
so instead you're getting it here, second-hand, straight out, just back from somerset house
in 1996 I sat on the hard concrete pavement of the South Bank with 2 beautiful girls (one of which I had a crush on, which I'm pretty sure was solely down to the perfect shape of her breasts) and shared a blanket and a bottle of ill-tasting white wine. We looked up at Some Like It Hot which was projected high on the side as the sun set and birds did the clever flying over thing over the pink-ing light, and everything seemed just right - not too extreme, not too mundane. Just perfect.
ReplyDeleteTold you I was big on the nostalgia thing...
the sushi became teriyaki, as is so often the case.
ReplyDelete'easy rider' at ally pally with an ex in about 1998 sticks in the memory, as does 'blow up' with a different ex in hyde park last year. i enjoyed one far more than i did the other.
