the windows in the ladies toilet of the very worthy organization i work for are opaque from the inside, but transparent from the outside.
people can lounge in the newly built roof terrace meeting-room and toilet-spot the girls as we go for our hourly whatevers (staring longingly at the mirror with accompanying multiple sighing not an uncommon activity)
i think the builders must have cooked up a deal with senior management, so that -- as my school's clearly right-on male director told me once when i complained about having to wear skirts instead of trousers -- they have "something to admire and smile about" while they sit discussing the latest human rights disaster in the world.
At my annual performance review a couple of months ago I was fined £25 for:
ReplyDeleteWearing Converse trainers to work (despite the fact that 2 female members of staff also do this without action)
Wearing black jeans (despite 3 female members of staff doing this. 2 of them wear blue jeans too - also forbidden to me)
Not shaving every day.
The reason is apparently that women can carry these things off, not men. It's a fashion thing. With men, apparently, it just looks...wrong for work.
I have a clean ironed shirt every morning. Bath every day (shower is too much standing up for me). I have a perfect 'customer service' record - whatever that is. And, more to the point, I have had not one complaint from customers or staff at my appearance.
I'll give 'em the shaving thing - I just hate doing it every day so there's stubble 2 days out of 7. But it's not like I've a beard like Giant Haystacks (RIP).
But this whole 'fashion' thing...Grrr.
(I wasn't shouting just now...honest...)
Why would you complain about having to wear skirts to school?
