coffee

the waiter tells me to turn my cup over on the plate, and to wait.
fear, excitement and butterflies.
he turns the cup back round when the muddy remains are almost dry.
a heart appears for all to see, bright as daylight in the blackened rim.
gasps all round. giggles dissolve.
your work life is happy, he says. and you will soon have a boyfriend.
